Review

I completed this course at the same time I read the book You Can Draw in 30 Days. Prior to DiMaria's course, and the aforementioned book, I had taken no art classes since high school. I did not excel at art in high school.

I now feel comfortable with a pencil in my hand and the ability to create recognizable figures.

I enjoyed the instructor and his teaching style. If you can draw a stick figure you can succeed in this course. You'll be amazed at what you can create by the end.

Structure

There are 15 lessons ranging between 2 and 17 minutes. The average lesson is only 7 minutes long. The instructor gets right to the point. He tells you exactly what you need to know to obtain success in drawing figures.

You learn foreshortening, line, shadow, drapery, detail, shape, edge, and value.

Donelli DiMaria uses numerous examples and demonstrations to explain the Reilly method.

About the Instructor

Donelli J. DiMaria is a professional artist and teacher. He has shown his paintings and drawings throughout the US for the past twenty years in numerous galleries and juried/invited arts shows. He had been actively teaching the Reilly drawing and painting techniques for the past six years.

He has had over 130,000 students enrolled in his courses on Udemy.

History of the Reilly Method

The Reilly Technique is named after Frank Reilly (1906-1967) who pioneered the approach to figure drawing. He taught for 35 years at the historic Art Students League of New York.

His classes were highly popular and had a waiting list that exceeded the number of students in attendance.
